The British Pound

In the United Kingdom the pound sterling is the currency used. The pound sterling is more commonly referred to as simply, "the pound". The British pound is one of the strongest currencies in the world and is the third most commonly exchanged currency in the foreign exchange market (forex).

The symbol for the British pound is £ and the ISO code for the pound is GBP.

Other terms that may be used when speaking of the British pound are pence and quid. A single British pound can further be broken down into 100 pence. Quid is a slang form of the currency, referring to £1.
